Message from President of NRG Oncology-Japan
at Global Oncology Trials Japan

As a President of NRG Oncology-Japan, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my cordial greetings to all of you.

NRG Oncology-Japan, a General Incorporated Foundation, was established in 2017 as a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting clinical trials. Our mission has two key pillars. One is an integral part of NRG Oncology, one of the clinical trial groups affiliated with the United States’ National Cancer Institute.  Another important mission is to support pharmaceutical company trials conducted in Japan.

NRG Oncology originated in 2014 through the merger of three previously independent groups: NSABP, RTOG, and GOG. In Japan, the gynecologic oncology clinical trials group has been collaborating with GOG since 2002 under the name GOG Japan. By 2014, over 650 patients with gynecologic cancer in Japan had participated in these trials. Some trials, such as GOG218, which led to the approval of a new drug, were conducted as investigator-initiated trials and yielded positive results, showcasing our success.

With the restructuring of NRG Oncology, we established NRG Oncology-Japan and extended our invitation to researchers from other oncology fields to join us in Japan. As a result, we now support clinical trials for breast, brain, and lung cancer, in addition to gynecologic oncology.

As I said, supporting pharmaceutical company clinical trials is another important aspect of our work. We have developed a system to facilitate clinical trials for new drug development in Japan, providing support to pharmaceutical companies, especially global ones.

Through these activities, we are committed to generating new evidence and delivering improved treatments for cancer patients. Our dedicated efforts aim to establish better standards of care and enhance the overall well-being of cancer patients.
